Lac du Bonnet is proudly cheering on two of its own as they take the next step in their hockey journeys. Local talents Ethan Simcoe (Edmonton Oil Kings) and Benson Hirst (Moose Jaw Warriors) face off in WHL action this season.

Ethan Simcoe was initially drafted by the Swift Current Broncos in 2021; however never signed with them. BCHL Coquitlam Express signed 2006-born goalie Simcoe in 2023. The WHL Edmonton Oil Kings signed Simcoe to a WHL scholarship and Development Agreement in November 2024.

The WHL Moose Jaw Warriors signed 2023 ninth-round pick Benson Hirst to a WHL scholarship and Development Agreement in September 2025.

Both players grew up playing in the Lac du Bonnet Minor Hockey Association, developing their skills on our hometown rink before advancing through higher levels of competition. Seeing Ethan and Benson reach this milestone, and face off as opponents, marks an exciting moment for our community and an inspiration for every young Lightning player. Congratulations, Ethan and Benson. Lac du Bonnet is behind you all the way!
